High Density Polyethylene as a FDA approved cutting board

During your next time you're the one chopping veggies and fruit on top of your slicing board, spend some time and look at it, the material most likely to be used as a High Density Polyethylene Cutting Board - Sheets cutting board is Polyethylene. Since it should be FDA and National Sanitation Foundation approved in addition to stain, moisture and odor resistant, Polyethylene is the best choice for slicing boards.

High Density is commonly used for the one gallon milk jugs and food containers. Low Density is often used for milky colored bottles in addition to plastic baggies. UHMW, which has higher molecular weight (2-6 million) which allows for an even transfer over the length of material which makes it stronger, which makes it able to be used with regard to bearing products for its great wear resistance. Regularly employed in the food processing and dairy industry, Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene is a wonderful replacement for a great many other industrial materials and a great method to fix many wear issues.   These types of polymers are created from the same polyolefin plastic family, but all have certain properties that make them a little different. HDPE provides great chemical resistance, has higher impact strength and great energy absorption. Low Density has many of the same properties as High Density but it is not as dense at 9.15, as an alternative to HDPE which is 9.34, as well as being a softer material ( flexible coffee can lids). Additionally it has a lower tensile strength and also improved, easier heat processing.
UHMW can be described as strong material with great durability and low co-efficient of friction which make it an ideal for sliding applications. The only plastic material with a lower co-efficient of friction is Dupont Teflon - PTFE; which has a higher temperature and chemical resistance.
